Hi Nancy-
I know that the original spelling in our line is ZIEGELMEYER. I have photos of original birth and marriage records from France dating back to the late 18th century and all have the MEYER spelling. The MEIER spelling ( as it relates to our line) is probably more a result of poor record keeping. Clerks are notorious for misspelling our name. Even today the press usually spells our name wrong.
I have a list on the forum of the many different ways I have found our name spelt.
