Hello,
We have been researching Zylich genealogy for about 5 years now and have discovered that our ancestors came from Nowa Wies, Nowy Sacz in the Carpathian Mountains of what is now Poland. When my husband's grandfather came to the U.S. he left from Bremen, Germany, but his home country is listed as Austria on his immigration papers. We have determined that they were Carpatho Rusyns. We have come across several different spellings of the name including Zylich (ours) - there is also a branch in Canada with this spelling; Zillicz, Zilich and Zylicz.
Ambrose Zylich came to the U.S. in 1895. We know that his brothers Paul and John also came to the U.S. - Paul lived in Michigan, but the family lost contact with John soon after he came.
We have some great websites on the Carpatho Rusyns if you are interested.
Ron and Robbi Zylich
