Helen Sanftner was my grandmother...and she was related to the Zinniel's. Helen was married to John Boyer...my grandfather and grandmother...my maiden name was Boyer. I am so interested in finding out about my relatives. If we don't find out and record it now...the information will be lost forever. I met a relative on the internet from Galena, Illinois and another from Dubuque, Iowa. We are all related and didn't know each other before then. They come up to Albert Lea, Minnesota..my home...and we all shared information and took a trip to Bancroft, Iowa for two days. We found the Zinniel's at St. John's Catholic Church there....this winter I will try to compile the information into my genealogy program. Winter is setting in here in Minnesota so when I get "snowed" in, I will work on my fun projects on the computer. Thanks for responding...please try to find out if your Michael Zinniel was related to Mathais Zinniel.
This is a newspaper article that I have found...my grandparents attended this celebration in 1937.
Zinniel's Observe 30th Anniversary
June 20, 1937
Two Hundred Relatives and Friends Gathered at Their Home
Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Zinniel, residents of Home township, were pleasantly surprised on their 30th wedding anniversary at their home, five and a half miles north of Sleepy Eye, Sunday.
Mr. John Zinniel of Park Rapids, Minnesota and Mrs. John Boyer (Helen Sanftner)(my grandparents) of New Richland,Minnesota who served as best man and bridesmaid at their marriage 30 years ago, accompanied the celebrants to Mass at St. Mary's Church Sunday morning. Before they returned home nearly two hundred relatives and neighbors gathered at the Zinniel home with picnic baskets laden with food and prepared a dinner on the lawn. Huge vases of roses and peonies and a wedding cake made and decorated by Leo Ulmen of Mankato, Minnesota adorned the table.
The afternoon was spent socially, the men and boys at horseshoe and baseball, the children at various different games, Ice cream and lemonade was served at 3 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Zinniel were presented a beautiful Aladdin lamp and a purse of silver as a wedding gift from the relatives and neighbors.
Late in the afternoon everyone enjoyed a picnic supper after which the people departed wishing Mr. and Mrs. Zinniel many more years of happy wedded life.
Mr and Mrs. (Katherine Sanftner) Zinniel were united in marriage at St. John's Catholic Church at Bancroft, Iowa, January 22, 1907. Due to the unfavorable weather in the month of January the anniversary was celebrated in June, to enable the relatives to attend.
