I'm a descendant of Peter Zobeck and Anna Morroest, who came from the area around Nove Mesto na Morave, in Moravia, present-day Czech Republic. I also studied in Czech Republic for a while.

In 2005, my father's cousin from Minnesota and I went out to the villages that they were from. We strongly suspect that the name was originally Zobáč, which got changed to Zoback or Zobeck as a Germanized spelling. The village of Jimramov has a double cemetery (one Catholic and one Protestant church share it). It's the cemetery for the whole area, and tons of Zobac headstones are there. Unfortunately I was not able to go through the records as the office was closed that day, and though I speak Czech reasonably well, I don't speak German.

I'd be interested in exchanging info with anyone else.
