Louis Zoeller in Newark, NJ mid-late 1800's

I am looking for information on my great-great grandfather Louis Zoeller shown in the 1880 census as Zoeller and then in the 1900 and 1910 census as Zeller. He married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Steiber sometime between 1872 and 1880. He had a son John Otto born October 12, 1882. John married Caroline Kraus. Louis and Elizabeth lived in Newark in 1880. Elizabeth had 2 sons from a previous marriage, Louis and August Rapp. The census records show that Louis came to the US from Germany but I cannot read what year he came here. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know when he came here and where he lived when he came here. I can't find him before 1880.
